Happy Halloween. My kids had a "Harry Potter" movie marathon this weekend. So to end off the month of October I sketched one of the creepiest thing from the Harry Potter books.

Meet Mr. Surrealist himself, Salvador Dali. I have been working on another t-shirt design today. I am going to be teaching a silk screen printing class this Friday and I am trying to come up with some materials for demonstrations. You can see that I have a thing for high contrast images with these designs. They make for an easier image to "pull" when printing.

With a week and a half till Halloween I thought that I would do some drawings that fit that spirit. This is a drawing that is from a short story I just read. It is called The Wolves of St. Augustine by Mike Mignola. It is unique take of the typical werewolf story.

This is not one of those little chickens. This is hormone and corn feed birds that you would find on your plate at KFC.

"Sheep" pencil

I am still sticking to four footed cloven animals. Sheep are very symbolic in many of the Abrahamic traditions. The common symbol in Christianity is that of the good Shepard. Where in Christ is symbolized as the Shepard. An example of this is in John 10:14, it says "I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine." One thing that I take away from this verse is that we are not unknown or alone.

For the past couple of weeks I have had my students in my 3D art class create these "Art Boxes". They were to find between 50 to 100 pictures which show their exterior self and their interior self. They then decoupaged these images onto boxes. They had to be thoughtful about how they and others perceive themselves on the outside. The inside of the box was their inside self or subconscious self. It has been interesting to see how teenagers perceive themselves. Some feel comfortable and sure of themselves, while others are very conscious about what others think.

This drawing of Churchill is similar to the one I have done of the Mona Lisa. It is broken down in to shapes which are high contrast, and almost more a form of graphic art in nature.

While sketching today I was thinking about the the warmth that we have had with the starting of fall. It has started to cool down, but I don't see the changes in the leaves as brightly as I have in the past.

I know, I know. I missed making a post yesterday. It was a ruff day. I wanted to get to bed as early as I could because I had a half-marathon to run this morning. I still did some work though. This was the final version for the screen print which I burned yesterday.

The horse sketch comes from today. Half of the race went through fields and pastures. While running I saw some horses out in one of the pastures and I though that it would make a good sketch in my sketchbook for today.

This is a t-shirt design that I have been working today. Why does putting glasses on someone make them a nerd? I don't know, but I think that Mona Lisa would have been a really cool nerd. I plan on putting her new and improved image on some t-shirt's. I let you know how they turn out.

I watched Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief with my kids. I was impressed by how much they new about Greek myths. So I thought that a Satyr would be appropriate for today's sketch.
