I was looking through some of the work of Maynard Dixon, who was friend of LeConte Stewart's. Dixon was an artist form the early 20th century whose work centered around the American Southwest. There is a body of his work at the BYU museum of art. The acquisition of this work was a coupe for the university. It led to the creation of the current museum.
Looking at his paintings you can feel the magical allure that these solitary lands of color have over artist's.
This is my own little made up vision of a desert landscape. It is a small painting (about the size of a postcard) so I am sure it lacks the grandeur of color that the real lands hold.
